THE TRESLER FAMILY TREE
The name Tresler is German. It is a variant of the German and Jewish names Dressler, Drechsler, and Drexler, which are occupational names for "one who turned a lathe, a turner." A turner would be responsible for making small objects not just from wood, but also from bone, ivory and amber, all of which were widely used in the Middle Ages for their decorative value.
The German name Trexler is a variant of the German names Traxler and Trachsler, meaning "one who fashioned objects on a lathe, a turner." The English names Tressler, Tressel, and Tress mean "one who made, or used, trussels, a mold used in stamping coins." The English names Dressler, Dressel, and Dresser mean "one who finishes textile fabrics to give them a nap or smooth surface." German variants of Dressler, Drechsler, and Drexler include Drossler, Traxler (East Franconia, Thuringia), and Draxler (Bavaria, Austria). Jewish variants include Dresler and Draksler. Other spellings of the names Tresler and Dressler include Tresslar, Dresslar, Drexel, and Trissel.
